General Information
Potomac Craftsmen, Inc. offers a grant of up to $500 to a guild member to assist in her/his technical and aesthetic development in the fiber arts. All guild members in good standing who have been members for at least one year are eligible to apply. Beginning as well as advanced fiber artists and craftsmen are encouraged to apply. Financial need is not a consideration.
The applicant must submit a written proposal for a specific project that will contribute both to the applicant’s personal growth in the fiber field and also enrich the guild. Slides or photographs of the applicant’s previous work are requested to indicate style, direction and interest of the applicant to date. The proposal may include requests for travel funds, tuitions and registrations, fiber supplies, film, video tape, etc. Equipment is given a low priority. Any topic in the fiber field may be proposed. The grant generally is offered in alternate years.
The grantee will be selected by a reviewer outside Potomac Craftsmen who is qualified and well regarded in the fiber field and art education. All applications will be coded to protect the
anonymity of the applicants. Only the name of the grantee and project will be announced.
Upon conclusion of the project or within twelve months of accepting the grant, the grantee is required to arrange to share the results of the study with the guild. This may be in the form of a slide talk, lecture, workshop, exhibit, publication, or other appropriate form of presentation. Notebooks detailing the work may be donated to the guild library if appropriate. Failure to complete the proposed study or to share the results of the study with the guild within the specified time will require the grantee to return the grant funds to the Potomac Craftsmen.
Proposals not accepted may be resubmitted in following years. Grant recipients may not re-apply for a three-year period.
